The extraordinary, spellbinding voice of Aruna Sairam, the most celebrated singer of southern Indian Carnatic music, is combined with those of Dominique Vellard, a specialist in medieval European music, and the Moroccan singer Noureddine Tahiri. This multicultural project promotes dialogue in a programme that draws on the sacred and secular music of southern India, of Islam, and of medieval Christendom. Ensemble Gilles Binchois entangled three major musical and spiritual traditions to an intriguing braid that makes the story of artistic and human recognition across all borders.
The melodic instruments that accompany vocals in various music traditions: the violin in Carnatic singing, the oud in Arab music, the fiddle in the medieval tradition, as well as percussion linked to different music styles (mridangam, zarb and daf).
