Aruna Sairam lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate The Times Thyagaraja Awards' fourth edition at the Music Academy

    As the city's sabhas are resounding with soulful ragas and kritis, the Margazhi sea son is keeping the rasikas busy. To add delight to the sonically alluring season, The Times Thyagaraja Awards kicked off its fourth edition at the Music Academy.

    The evening began with riveting performances by the winners and finalists of The Times Thyagaraja Awards 2013. Youngsters Soundarya C, V Subashri, Janani Hamsini, Anirudh, Karthik Iyer and Sai Vignesh won hearts with their vocals. Performing at the main hall of the Music Academy was a dream come true for these youngsters. Veteran Carnatic singer Padma Shri Aruna Sairam lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the show. Later in the evening, the patrons enjoyed a scintillating performance by her. Calling The Times Thyagaraja Awards "a beautiful platform," Sairam said, "This contest gives youngsters a chance to perform in front of the best connoisseur and gets them ample recognition."

    Sabhas can nominate their young Carnatic talents between the age group 12 and 23 by calling 9840469299.
