The Connoisseur's Musings: Aruna Sairam is one of those rare musicians who has a very good grasp and understanding of the compositions that are rendered. Both knowledgeable connoissuers and the uninitiated adore her presentations and this recording, in particular, bears testimony to the fact. All the compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar taken up by her, in this concert, have been rendered with the rare degree of balance and poise. The Ananda Bhairavi composition 'Thyagarajayoga' has been rendered with such grace, so as to bring out the beauty of the lyrics plainly to the audience. The Amritavarshini composition has been brought out in all its glory, leaving the audience quite moved. 'Rajagopalam Bhaje' in Mohanam has been presented with such finesse as to bring out fully the essence of the composition - 'Ragam, Tanam, Pallavi', rendered in Hemavathi eloquently affirms her mastery of the nuances of Carnatic music. She has interspersed her renderings with several compositions of Purandara Dasa which are a joy to listen to. Her Abhang of Janabai has brought out the simplicity of the great Saint, a servant in the household of Saint Gnyaneshwar.
